Research and Development Cell
The Institute is equipped with an innovation ecosystem to nurture students’ ideas and steer them towards applying for grants and becoming a start-up. The Institute has an in-house Research and Development cell with steering members to motivate them to perform well in their research and develop innovative products. The R&D cell consists of doctoral committee members to advise the students on applying for various government and non-government research support programs. The R&D cell at J.N.N.I.E. also operates the Next Big Idea Club, through which it periodically conducts in-house ideation events to stimulate fresh ideas from the students.
The Institute has signed several Memorandum of Understanding with industries and other organizations for student internships, projects, faculty development, consultancy, and technology transfer. Some notable projects undertaken by the Industry – Institution Collaboration Cell include ongoing projects with M/s. Preethi Philips, M/s. Niva Engineering, M/s Ilakiya Instrumentation, and M/s Metro Composites Research & Development centre.
MSME Business Incubator
The Institute has an MSME Business Incubator recognized by the Govt. of India. This incubator aims to nurture the ideas of students, faculty, and other start-ups in the vicinity. The students and faculty of J.N.N.I.E. have submitted 18 proposals, and six proposals were submitted by the start-ups in the neighbouring areas. The institution has a dedicated resource identification team to attract new budding start-ups to build innovative Make in India products through the incubator.
MHRD Institution Innovation Council (MHRD IIC)
Institution Innovation Council (IIC) is a unique initiative of MHRD Innovation Cell. It aims at streamlining and strengthening the Innovation and Start-up ecosystem at higher education institutions. J.N.N.I.E is a member of this flagship program by the MHRD. Dr. V.R Arun Prakash, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, serves as the President of IIC. The IIC consists of student and faculty coordinators for Innovation, Start-up, IPR, Internship, and Social Media activities. The IIC actively engages with the students and encourages participation in Smart India Hackathon (SIH.), Hackathons, Ideathons, Project expos, etc.
The IIC and R&D cell regularly collaborate to conduct Research and Innovation activities throughout the year. IIC facilitates knowledge dissemination regarding Innovation, Start-up, IPR and ensures the innovation ecosystem of the campus thrives. The IIC team regularly conducts meetings and discusses institutions’ innovation ecosystem with peer group institutions and private R&D centres. Several seminars and workshops were conducted in the past years by the cell, specifically on research methodologies, intellectual property rights, academic writing, patent drafting, and filing, for both students and faculties. Industry experts and domain experts are frequently called to address the students on the latest technology advancements.
The faculties and students are encouraged to attend national and international forums related to innovation by Govt. of India via video conferencing and online seminar platforms. Through the IIC, the Institute financially supports faculty members and students for patent drafting and filing.
